Sunken Shower / Tub Bathroom Remodeling Project in Austin Tx Pt 1

This bathroom remodeling project in Austin Tx. This is one of the more interesting projects I have encountered in quite some time. The bungalow is located in the Zilker Park neighborhood of Austin Tx and the owner wanted to immediately remodel the slate bathroom that had been remodeled by the previous owner.
.
The homeowner was wanting to install a sunken tub shower in place of the existing shower. We also moved the wall back into the closet 8 inches to minimize the claustrophobic vibe of the existing bathroom.

After demolishing the existing bathroom we stripped everything down to studs.

After framing everything,we had all of the plumbing roughed in. We replaced all of the cast Iron drains throughout the house with all new PVC throughout and used PEX for our valves.

We then sheeted the walls of the tub and main wall with 3/4 inch plywood

The bathroom floor got hardibacker installed in a mortar bed

We then Floated out the low spot in the floor and on the back wall.
We will give you updates on this sunken shower bathroom remodeling project in Austin Tx in future posts. Stay tuned.
