Mid Century Modern Home Build in South Austin Tx

Mid Century Modern Home Build in South Austin Tx

This is a new home home build in South Austin Tx that we recently collaborated on with another Austin homebuilder.  They have already built a few homes with this Eichler inspired structure.   The home is a 1,800sf plan with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

Although we really like the structure and floor plan,  they were playing it safe on prior builds.   We changed the interior and exterior paint schemes as well as the finish selections.  We came in and made this home more true to its mid century modern style roots and brought it up with higher end materials and ideas.

Starting with the exterior – The paint scheme is definitely Eichler inspired. The darker shade of grey and blue give a nice contrast to the limestone used on the front entryway. White around the windows and on outside corners gives the home a nice balance. Horizontal fencing also gives it that mid century modern home feel. We retained the hill in front of the home to create a courtyard. This adds to the open feel of the home.

For the interior – Colonial grey was used for the walls with Greek White for the Kitchen Cabinetry and Trim. This goes well with the Acacia wood Flooring in the main living space. Grey Quartz counter tops were changed with this Snow White Quartzite counter tops. We used 3cm with a waterfall on the kitchen island and 2cm double laminated edges on the rest of the countertops in the kitchen as well as the bathroom vanities.

Drywall in front of the island was eliminated in favor of masonite painted to match the rest of the cabinetry. For the backsplash we used hand made elongated bar tiles and cement tile in a B & W Circulo pattern on the bar. We also deleted the microwave above the range and eliminated the bridge cabinet in favor of a stainless steel vent hood. We also upgraded the range.

For the bathroom remodeling, we used cement tiles on the floor, Black hexagons for the shower pan in the master bathroom, and crushed quartz tiles under glass which looks like Thassos marble. Our accent color used on the vanity cabinets is Real Teal. This bathroom design was Minimalist modern with a bit of art deco.  Cabinetry throughout the rest of the home is all shaker style custom built cabinets.

Tub / shower combo in the master was eliminated and instead put in a free floating bench. There are 2 shower heads and a handheld. the valves are concealed on the left wall and the shampoo niche is concealed behind the pony wall next to the vanity cabinet. All of these elements make this a custom master bathroom with a huge 40sf master shower.

The last blog posting has more details on the construction of the master bathroom remodeling project in Austin Tx with photos of various stages.

All carpeting was eliminated in this newly constructed mid century modern Eichler Style Home in Austin Tx. We brought the wood flooring into the 2 guest bedrooms and went with vein cut limestone floors in the master bedroom, master closet, and laundry room.
