This is the before picture of the minimalist modern limestone bathroom remodeling project in West Lake HIlls / Austin Tx. The old shower that had failed is in the top left corner of the picture. the toilet flange is right across from it on the bottom right hand side of the picture. Note the wet and rotten wood at the top of the picture.
This next picture shows the slab opened up so that we could reroute the toilets new location to the main sewer line and center the drain for the larger shower we have framed in. Also take note of how all of the corners of each bay are caulked. We moved the wall of the closet back 6 inches and framed a free floating bench seat.
In this 3rd picture you can see how we completely covered all of the exposed shower framing with aqua defense. We insulated the walls and ceiling. The floor has been floated in concrete which is graded toward the weep holes in the center of the shower pan to allow for proper water drainage. The shower pan is also covered in multiple coats of the rubberized waterproof material to act as a secondary waterproof membrane.
This picture shows our vinyl membrane which acts as our second waterproof shower pan liner.
This picture shows the backer board that has been installed and waterproofed with multiple coats of the rubberized waterproof material.
Although it is not grouted yet, you can see how the lines consistently line up in the corners.
